The Top of the Pops series of albums ran from 1968 to 1985 with almost a hundred releases. Notable for their covers which helped them stand out in the racks of records stores, they also fooled many a beginner to record buying into believing they were buying a compilation of recent hits for a very attractive price. Many a grimace followed when the needle started playing the first track.
